Inquiries of an Old Friend

To start off the Daemon Experiment, I've been letting my friends know what I'm planning, and suddenly Mike isn't the only one interested in this endeavor, and not the only one who has some questions and suggestions for me.

I've known my friend Jessica for roughly seven years. If you count back, that's just about the time this whole thing started. Although we weren't terribly close back then, she saw a first-hand account of all of this before moving to another city. Recently, she moved back to my hometown, and we re-connected, becoming closer friends than ever before. Upon hearing about the purpose of the Daemon Experiment, she seemed excited to finally be able to ask me, upfront, questions about the whole thing that have been on her mind this whole time.

And this is how the first interview came to be.

She took video while interviewing me, although due to the difficulty of converting the filetype the video logged as on her phone, I'm unable to post it at the moment. Be assured, though, that as soon as we can figure out how to convert it in a way it can be played easily, I will be sticking it in this post.

I thought her questions were great, fundamental questions that needed to be asked, and hope that my answers provided some insight!

Here's how things went:

Jessica: Alright, we're recording. So, this is Interview 1, my name is Jessica, I've known Michelle for about seven years. I'm just going to be asking her some questions. This is March 31st, 2010. So, tell me a little more about the Lokoi? Right?

Michelle: Right.

Jessica: And how it can be seen or understood in today's society.

Michelle: Well, you already know a little bit about the Lokoi, from knowing me and in the first post. Which is that, according to Akhra and a lot of the others, that's where everything came from; the Universe. If you will, it was sort of the pre-big-bang, what was there. But, it's not to say that it's gone after the big-bang. It's just the fact that the big-bang shook off little pieces, but only that. So the Lokoi itself is still there. It's still, not really changed too much from what it was. So, it's sentient, it does not follow the laws of time and space as we known them because it predates them. And it's sort of like enfolding us, I guess, is a way of putting it. The Lokoi, not including the pieces that broke off, would be around us but so vastly far away that we wouldn't be able to see it or even if we did we probably wouldn't be able to register it. It's..

Jessica: Mm hmm.

Michelle: ..something that, I mean I don't know very much about it, but I can imagine it probably doesn't have properties of matter or energy that we are used to seeing. I know that the pieces of the Lokoi that did break off, um, including like the universe and time and things like that, those are still active, they have a sentience of their own, so I guess if that makes sense, the Lokoi, even in pieces, is still sentient.

Jessica: Everything in the Universe came from the Lokoi..?

Michelle: Right. And, even though it's sort of branching out into smaller and smaller branches, like going from the trunk of a tree up, it's still the same material. So, every one of us, since we're born from the Universe, which is born from the Lokoi, have a little spark of the Lokoi in us. And the spark that I'm referring to is what you would call life or a soul or what gives us our intelligence. And everything has that that's born of the universe, like this kitty cat, plants and rocks. There are varying levels of it, varying um, types I guess?

Jessica: Degrees?

Michelle: Yeah. It's like energy: it can have both a certain amount and a certain type. So for instance a rock probably has much difference then we do, since we can't go around talking to rocks. Um.. I don't know, does that answer your question?

Jessica: Pretty much, uh, in a nutshell. Is there any way to interact with, or, uh, find.. or is it.. I know it's something that we can't really comprehend, but is there any way that we can, how would you say, have proof of the existence of such a thing?

Michelle: Um, gosh. It's like, a very, I don't know, that's a question -

Jessica: How do you prove the existence of God, yeah.

Michelle: Exactly, and that's the closest thing that I can compare it to. It's, I mean there are a lot of hints in the universe, and science finds a lot of hints about it, but I don't know that it can be definitely proven or disproven. …If you study the theory of it, I think that that proves that there is something other then just your science, something like a catalyst, and a beginning stage.

Jessica: I see. Well, I just want to ask you a couple of questions about some of your connections. You stated on the blog, that it was 'Arc', or, is that what you called him on the blog?

Michelle: Yeah.

Jessica: Arc, then Ahkra, well who was the next connection that appeared and tell me a little about his or her story?

Michelle: Ok, so the next one after Ahkra, was Raien, and I met him when I was in Middle School. I think that was when I was in seventh grade, I wanna say? His appearance is… that he has very uniquely colored hair; it's white at the roots and a little bit blue/lavender at the tips, and I don't know if that's because it changed color as it was growing or what, but he has golden colored eyes, tanned skin, um, average build, and he is a shapeshifter. More specifically he's half dragon. He has a brother - half brother - who is a full dragon. He originates from a small island off of the coast of a continent called Maika Tenei, which is not in this world if you look it up.

Jessica: Heh heh heh.

Michelle: Um, let's see, he used to be in a relationship with, um, a girl named Leora, who is not from his world. Um… he traveled from his island, across Maika Tenei, up to the Deinnan, which is like a northern wasteland. It was a very profound journey for him. But, um, I don't wanna like rant a bunch here.

Jessica: It's okay. How did he come in contact with you?

Michelle: It's very, um, all of the connections have, usually have this common theme where it's like a child tugging on the hem of your pants, or -

Jessica: Do they that do that on purpose, are they looking for something like that?

Michelle: Not necessarily, sometimes they are and sometimes they aren't. Sometimes I get people who are coming to me who are in need of help or are confused and looking for some answers as to what is going on because maybe they didn't even intend to come here. Some of them act bored but I don't know if they're really bored or that's just their personality. A lot of times there is a slightly different, um, beginning to each connection, and they are all like this little tugging but it comes in a different form. Sometimes I hear something out loud, like my name or something, even though I didn't, I know it's not something any one else heard and no one is around me. And sometimes I will catch wind of something very auspicious and, and... a fragrance I should not be smelling.

Jessica: Mmheh heh.

Michelle: And, or I will have pain somewhere randomly, like if they're hurt I will start to feel it. Um, so it really depends on each one.

Jessica: Alright.

Michelle: Most of them start with something like that.

Jessica: I see. And how can you explain that although many of your connections are from different worlds and have different cultures, they all speak English, and you can't speak their languages?

Michelle: Okay, this one is a very good question. And the answer is, they don't all speak English. And I don't know the exact mechanics because I'm not a super neuroscientist, although I think it'd be cool to be one. But, um, I know that originally, they do not speak English, some of them do, like Allen -

Jessica: Allen speaks..?

Michelle: Allen speaks English, Kaoru speaks English although his original -- his first language -- is Japanese. Um, a lot of them never have spoken English and I think that the fact that we communicate mostly via thought is the reason why I can understand them. And I'm not sure why they don't start spouting Japanese or German or whatever when they speak through me, or Taieryn, but I think it's mostly due to the limitations of my own mind. I can't..

Jessica: You don't know those things so they can't use your..?

Michelle: Yeah, it's like filtering, okay this is a weird metaphor, it's like filtering mud through fabric. The water comes out but the soil stays on the other side. So, my brain just isn't permeable enough for that to come through, I guess, is what I'm trying to say.

Jessica: Can they do certain things that you can't do, that they can make you do?

Michelle: Um, there has been some scenarios, and I would hesitate to say that it's a definite yes, but I do think so. I have had Kael in control before, and someone who is trained to know how to grapple, like for fun, just grab him. Heh, and I have no idea how to fight. I have like, zero clue, but he definitely reacts like someone -

Jessica: Who has experience like that.

Michelle: Right, and he does have experience. But, it's strange that it would come through. Um, let's see.

Jessica: I guess knowledge is different then controlling your body in a way that it hasn't been controlled before.

Michelle: Well, they both have limitations.

Jessica: Of course.

Michelle: I mean, like -

Jessica: You can't fly just 'cause one of your connections can.

Michelle: Exactly, and I'm not about to jump off the roof and try.

Jessica: Exactly.

Jessica: So, can your connections travel our world like spirits, visiting places and people, or are they bound to minds like yours?

Michelle: I would definitely say it depends on who they are. I have come across some that have this ability to varying degrees, I've met other channelers that say that they have connections that can go anywhere in this world. I know a lot of mine can't, it's more like, if they don't reside here in the first place, it's more like my mind is a window, but outside of that they can't really have as much interaction with this world very easily. Some of them, just because of pure power, can kind of, um, overcome this. I know that Ahkra, to my knowledge, has had a few occasion where he did this. He can't go very far, but he can step out. But at the same time, a lot of others, they can't or they don't know how or they just, just haven't.

Jessica: Alright. Explain the differences between channeling the dead and what you do.

Michelle: Okay, this one is hard to explain but I will definitely try my best. The two, in my opinion, and from my experience, are completely different. And a lot of people have a hard time seeing this. But, for me, it's like grabbing something from two different distinct places, and even though all of my connections come from varying worlds, the distance between their world is so much more minuscule than the difference between any of those worlds and the realm of the dead. So, another way to look at it is that it would be different ways of um, not communicating, but like empathizing with them. It's like finding someone by heat wave or by sound. And I am specialized in one way and not the other, which is not to say that I couldn't do the other, I'm not really sure, but it's a very different process. Um, I was gonna say something else.. Oh, um, the other way I explain, um, connecting to people, is that they each have a signature frequency, and I'm not like a weird machine or anything at least to my knowledge, but each person has their individual energy. It's kinda like it has to go in frequencies -

Jessica: Right.

Michelle: But, to describe the dead, it's like it would be a frequency of a different type of energy which for me is very hard to, um, get close to. Or, you know, um, it's not something I feel as readily.

Jessica: I understand, I think. How about this last one, is there any way that you can give us proof of what you do or something to more easily believe you?

Michelle: The answer to this is probably no, because if I had definitive proof I probably would have given it to you and everyone else about seven years ago..

Jessica: Heh.

Michelle: Um, there have been definite, um, events, that I think were profoundly in favor of proving this, but from a scientific point, it could be called coincidence. I know that one of Raien’s abilities from his homeworld is called empathy, and it's different from just normal empathy, in that he can take someone's ailment, their hurt or sickness into himself, and by doing that they will be rid of it, and I do know that at one point, when he was here with Leora, um, he had taken a fever away from her in just a matter of seconds. And, that, whether you can actually prove this being proof or not, but her temperature went from over 100 to about 98 in a couple of minutes, and his went from about 98 to over 100 in the same time. And I think that that's one of the examples that could definitely, um, go towards proving this, but at the same time I don't know if it stands up to scientific standards. And -

Jessica: We'd have to catch it in a way that we can prove, we can have evidence.

Michelle: Right, and you know, there are all sorts of other explanations I'm sure, the only differences is that these events, events like this which have repeatedly occurred throughout time. Maybe not all the time, but there have been a lot of events like that that have happened, which I tend to think that that's a form of proof.

Jessica: I see.

Michelle: But it's hard to..

Jessica: It's hard to just prove it right here in front of the camera, heh.

Michelle: Exactly. I can't say, "Okay, scan my brain! This section proves it."

Jessica: Yeah, you can't just hold out your hand and just have fire appear.

Michelle: Yeah.

Jessica: Like that. Uh, to you have anything that you want to say?

Michelle: Um, not much.. Sorry for saying um a lot? I'm not used to being on video.

Jessica: Well, this is completely unscripted. The only reason why we have paper is because it has our questions on it.

Michelle: As you can see, I have not written down answers or anything, I wrote down the questions because I will have a brain-idiot moment and probably forget exactly what Jessica asked me. Therefore, it's for me to reference what I'm actually answering and that's all. I just saw these questions for the first time just a couple minutes ago.

Jessica: Right. And also, we're in the dark specifically to keep her at least somewhat anonymous.

Michelle: Yeah. I don't want to be like a nobody that, you know, could be..

Jessica: Making it complete up.

Michelle: Imaginary, yeah. But, my parents are kinda 'eh'..

Jessica: Yeah. Also, if you have any questions, we're gonna have a transcript of this as well as the video up on the website, so just send her an email.

Michelle: Yeah. And if you have any additional questions feel free shoot me an email and we'll try to include them in the next video or the next blog post.

Jessica: Alright. Thank you!

Michelle: Thanks!

Looking back on a lot of the questions, I can think of things I should have said, but I suppose I can comment on them now. As I explained, a lot of my connections do not speak English, or don't speak it as a first language (although there are a couple exceptions, like Allen). Sometimes small things do come through. Usually for Ahkra, whom I would consider the most powerful of the 'spirits' I'm connected to. His and Arc's original language is Taieryn, which itself means "of the Lokoi" or "from the Lokoi". Small things have slipped through, most likely since he easily gets frustrated with the limitations of the English language (and not being able to explain himself quite as well because of it) and I've been trying to keep track. Keseken, he's used in reference to corrupt or evil people, especially who are pawns of more powerful corrupt/evil people. Rehka is a nickname he has always, always used for Arc, which means something like "guiding light" according to him. Hieryn is 'savior', and even his name is a word in his original tongue. "Ahkra" means darkness. Not evil darkness, but all which belongs to natural death, the night, dreams, and pleasure. It certainly is a suiting name for him. Ryn (male) / Eryn (female) is an honorary term which can be used alone or added to a name, referring to someone of extremely high or noble status. Ankyl is an additory term meaning 'angel', but not the literal, biblical sense. An Angel is someone who can strongly channel a certain elemental force through them - such as Darkness (Ahkrankyl).

Raien's story was too long to include in the interview, and is also too long to include a detailed version in this post. In short, Corruption (Evil) held sway over Raien's world at the time that he lived, and had locked away Lea'Eryn (a rough translation of her name is the Virtuous (Good) Goddess). He didn't know anything about himself with a bad case of amnesia when he ran into Raege, and had been poisoned by the toxic and rare rain on Shapeshifter Isle, just off of the coast of Maika Tenei. Sympathizing for Raien and becoming a good friend to him, Raege and Raien traveled to cure him, and along the way learned about the plight of the land where they were guided by Arc, Ahkra, and a few others to the Deinnan, which is a no-man's wasteland in the northern part of Maika Tenei, eventually to find the elusive Aiestes, strongly Lokoi objects, which were then used as the key to unlock Lea'Eryn, and along the way ran into Raien's half-brother, Raeyic.

It was a strongly defining journey for Raien, and he changed dramatically from the beginning. I'm not able to give it much justice in just a paragraph, but that is the general outline of what happened, anyway, so that I don't leave you guys with nothing.

Well, that's about it for this time. Next time it won't be me being interviewed most likely, but one of my connections / daemons. Keep an eye out for that post, and I'll see you guys next time!

Remember, if you have any questions for me, or suggestions for experiments for the blog, go ahead and email me at thedaemonexperiment@gmail.com

Adieu!

The Beginning

Daemon: The Latin term for a spirit or supernatural being. Not to be confused with the Christianized word "Demon"; a daemon is no more prone to being good or evil than a human.

I'm Michelle. Your average twenty-something girl, with one big difference. I communicate with, and channel, spirits. Not the dead -- living spirits, from otherworlds. Obviously, this causes quite a bit of skepticism, fear, and misunderstandings. There have been a wide spectrum of reactions to this, ranging from 'You're just making this up', to 'You're possessed by demons', to 'You are crazy'.

My good friend Mike has known about this for a very long time, and has a few of his own hypotheses on the subject. But what good is a hypothesis without an experiment to back it up? And so it is that I found myself willingly volunteering to undergo his 'experiments'. I myself am a bit biased in the matter (this is completely real for me, and I cannot possibly envision it being otherwise), but I'm curious to see how this turns out. And he's curious to know, for sure, whether I have Dissociative Identity Disorder, am possessed by evil (or not-so-evil) spirits, or something else altogether.

Herein, I shall record the details of these experiments, which will include interview of myself, the spirits, and those who have known me for quite awhile, along with other quirky tests, such as sticking me in a church and dumping holy water on me.

But first, you'll need some background info.

Ever since I was a child, I saw things that other people did not. Mostly, I saw these shadowy beings, especially at night (although not always), which would wander our yard, our house. They were large -- taller than six or seven feet sometimes, stooped as not to hit the ceiling with their head(s). They came in an assortment of shapes and figures, some bipedal and others not, although none of them having the exact silhouette of a human.

I couldn't have told you how I knew, back then (now I know it was empathy), but I knew that they were bad news. They emanated bloodlust, malice, and every night I would lie as still as physically possible, willing my breathing to be silent, willing myself to be invisible to them, as I watched them wander through the stairwell in my basement room. I was terrified every night for my life. Through terror and practice, I learned unknowingly to erect a barrier. Willing myself to be silent, willing myself to go unseen and unnoticed, none of them came near or even looked in my direction, and it truly was as if I were invisible.

It probably comes as no surprise that I was alienated as a child. Most children are more interested in playing with dolls or fake weapons and planes, whereas I kept to myself, worried whether I'd make the next day.

Things went on like this for quite some time, even became routine, I suppose. And then, when I was about thirteen, things changed.

That night, I watched the gruesome parade the same as any night, warily keeping myself unnoticed in my bed, not daring to close my eyes. The parade passed (for now), and the stairwell was momentarily empty. And then a new silhouette appeared. He (for I knew it was a he) had a decidedly humanesque figure, with no strange appendages or proportions, like the others had. He had a small build, about 5'3" or so, with a delicate, waif-like appearance. And, despite the fact that, this night (like with all nights), I had done my best to will my breathing to silence and my body to stillness, blending in with the darkness, he saw right through it. He approached my bed, although there was neither malice nor any sort of harmful intent that I could sense from him. Rather, if I had to give a name to the sort of emotion he radiated, I would have to call it nervousness. Or maybe hesitation.

He stood right at the corner of my bed, watching me, uncertain at first. I honestly didn't know what to think -- he didn't seem bad, but then again, this had never happened before, and I was pretty freaked out. I watched him, willing my fatigue to disappear, not sure, and downright afraid, of what would happen if I fell asleep.

However, just mere moments after he had come to my bedside, it was as if sleep, which hadn't seemed close at all just shortly ago, wrapped around me entirely and pulled me under, willing or not. I fell right into a dream, which in and of itself was nothing extraordinary. Rather, the shocking thing was that I wasn't alone. All my life, I had been a lone traveler in my own dreamscape of abandoned cities, twilight forests, ruins of all sorts, and a variety of other landscapes. I had always been alone, save for what I ran from. Sometimes I could see it. Other times it went unseen, but very strongly felt. Something that would devour me.

This dream, though, was different. There was a boy there, with brown hair and the brightest blue eyes you've ever seen. He wasn't very tall for his age (I guessed him to be a teenager), and slender at that, but he ran like the wind, and guided me to safe spots. He taught me to shift shape -- although I hardly perfected it, I could still use it to some degree -- in my dreams. Helped me to outwit and outrun the nameless predator. But the whole time, he never said a word. It was, more or less, as if he were mute. Desperate to know who this mysterious person was (as I knew he was the same person whose silhouette I saw before dreaming), I asked him his name as I felt wakefulness tugging at seams of my dream. I asked him over and over, and finally, after he and the landscape disappeared, a soft voice, in no way my own, replied.

"Arc'ehn."

It's hard to explain what it felt like the first time I heard Arc's voice. It was like I had previously been in a tinted glass bubble, and that voice had broken it to let fresh air, never before tasted, in. I was never the same, nor would I wish to be.

From then on out, I could speak to him. Not out loud (well, I could, but I'd probably look like a schizophrenic), but via thought. And he would speak back, so clearly that it was as if he were sitting right next to me, speaking out loud, although I knew it was by thought as well. We started talking regularly, although soon after I was aware vaguely of another presence lingering around, like Arc, whom I hadn't come into contact with before. His name was Ahkra, and he is, quite frankly, terrible at first impressions. He ignored my probing questions, refused to introduce himself, and for quite awhile I wondered why he even bothered to come my direction -- until I realized that he was bound to Arc, and the two were in love.

Not too surprisingly, with all this going on, I was starting to wonder if I was just plain crazy. I started to ask them more probing questions, like where they came from, and why I shouldn't think they were just hallucinations of a lunatic. At that point, they started to teach me. They told me what they believed -- their perspective on reality, and I tested it against logic and quantum physics, since I had, previously, not been a particularly religious person, and science was all I had to test it by.

According to them, before the multiverse, before anything, there was the Lokoi. It was everything and nothing. It took up no space, and no time, for neither time nor space had come into existence yet. It was sort of like an incomprehensibly huge entity in a state of singularity. It was sentient, but not in a way that any of us (including Arc and Ahkra) could possibly comprehend. It was stable, at rest, sort of. And something happened to rouse it.

At that moment in time, it was like a giant animal, shifting in its sleep to shake off the dust. Only, the "dust" were infinitely small particles of the Lokoi which had broken off. They were about on scale with an electron compared to the size of the sun. These pieces were Lokoi in nature, which is to say they used to be part of the Lokoi. One of them became the multiverse -- an infinitely diverse collection of worlds playing out every single possibility, and each of them connected. Another became Time. Both of these were, like the Lokoi, sentient, although not on a level we can comprehend.

Other particles were born into entities, known as the Children of the Lokoi. They were beings of pure energy so vast that they could create a physical form for themselves, and yet all that they were was too much to fit inside. And so, the body became the mind for the rest of the energy, in a way. It's center. Ahkra was one of these - a child of the Lokoi. Others were born from the multiverse, like Arc, and like you and I. Each one of us still has at least a spark from the Lokoi, passed down like a gene through generations, which is what gives us our intelligence and energy.

They explained the manipulation of energy, and why "magic" doesn't thrive in this world.

They explained a lot of things, but I suppose I'm getting a bit too far into the workings of the clock, hm?

There were others that followed Arc and Ahkra. Raien, and Faeruun. Aieryn, Morals, Rynuin, and so, so many others that I spoke with. Arc and Ahkra tought me to defend myself against those who would wish me harm. They taught me to go to my center, my mind. An old, broken-down castle with its ceiling open to the sky from age sitting atop a hill in a meadow, surrounded by forest, with a vast body of water to the North. They would sometimes stay in the castle, which was actually pleasant on the inside, and taught me to defend it -- a skill that I would come to desperately need later on.

After that, they taught me how to leave. I could go to explore their worlds, or just rest within my fortress. More than that, they could take over for me. It was possession, in a way, although before the very first time, we set down laws for it. Like a contract. Basic, very important rules, such as not to hurt anyone. Also, I kept my memory open even while I was gone, so that they could access it like an open book. (Awkward situations tend to arise if this isn't done).

And, that's more or less where I am, today. I have many more spirits I've met along the way, though (literally hundreds of them), and continually meet more.

By now, you've probably formed some sort of an opinion of me. Whether you think I'm insane, eccentric, confused, or anything besides, though, I'd happily like to hear what you have to say. As a part of this experiment, I will quite honestly answer any question I receive. Just shoot me an email at thedaemonexperiment@gmail.com and I'll post the question and answer in the next blog entry.

For now, adieu, and I will see you all in the next post, and the true beginning of the Daemon Experiments.
